FTH Katsina Begins Free Emergency Maternal Care

Katsina, Feb. 14, 2025 – The Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina has launched the Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric Care (CEMOC) Programme to provide free treatment for uninsured and indigent women facing life-threatening pregnancy complications.

The initiative, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, is funded under the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to curb maternal deaths.

The programme covers:

  • Pre-eclampsia and Eclampsia
  • Antepartum and Postpartum Haemorrhage
  • Prolonged/Obstructed Labour
  • Post-Abortion Care
  • Ectopic Pregnancy
  • Prolonged Premature Rupture of Membranes
  • Puerperal Sepsis

The hospital signed an MoU with the NHIA on Dec. 12, 2024, and implementation begins today, Feb. 14, 2025. The management urges the public to refer uninsured women in need of urgent care to the hospital.
